Blind spot is the point of entry of the optic nerve on the  retina - it allow us to see but is insensitive to light

Film Place Collective is launching a new project, Blind Spot: Spaces of Lockdown, about the seen but not yet felt. The present initiative stems from the desire to come together again, see what our solitude holds in common, and how this encounter could be the beginning of a new conversation.

This unprecedented conjuncture calls for a gesture towards the other. The pandemic crisis has created an impossible situation where the necessary distance to the other alters our relationship with ourselves and the spaces around us. The new boundaries in our daily lives prompt us to question our spatial environments—the home, the workplace, the city in lockdown—from often starkly different vantage points that register (and exacerbate) existing inequalities. Meanwhile, the global Black Lives Matter protests following the police killing of George Floyd have exposed the necessity of intervention within urban space and the built environment, from demonstrations to the removal of racist monuments. As a process and medium of perception, film allows us to capture and archive these altered experiences of space.

Blind Spot: Spaces of Lockdown project aims to create an online platform for audiovisual works that respond to this crisis as it is felt in relationship to space. We would like to invite filmmakers, architects, and thinkers to submit their short films (whether fiction or documentary) or other mixed media projects to be featured on this platform.
